„The window for positive early learning closes when children are around seven years old, due to a sharp decrease in brain malleability at this point. Protective factors that support children’s development during this phase include regular, warm, stimulating interactions with their parents and other caregivers whereas risk factors that impede development include exposure to stresses, such as violence in the home and poor nutrition. […] If children have not developed core foundation skills at seven years of age, they will struggle to progress well at school and are more likely to have social and behavioural difficulties in adolescence and in adulthood.“
