In 2023, 78.5 % of Korean primary and secondary school students participated in private tutoring. The monthly average expenditure for private tutoring per student has increased since 2015, reaching KRW 434 thousand, roughly 10 % of average household disposable income in 2023. […] 49.2 % of Korean parents think the cost of private tutoring is very burdensome, and 27 % point to the burden of their children’s education and childcare as one of the main reasons for the falling fertility rate.“
