„Graduates from top universities are much more likely to obtain a high salary. The intense competition to gain admission to these prestigious universities, dubbed ‚the golden ticket syndrome‘, leads many students to prioritise the name of the institution over choosing a field of study according to their interests and skills. As a result, the share of working-age Koreans who are over-qualified for their jobs is among the highest in the OECD, and the share of employees with qualifications that are mismatched to the job they actually do is almost 50 %, which is the highest in the OECD.“
