„Korea is known worldwide for its zeal for education, which has played a major role in its economic development but has in many ways become excessive. A university degree has become the minimum academic achievement for a majority, and the proportion of the 25-34 age group with tertiary education is the highest in the OECD. Credentialism, a reliance on academic qualifications as the best measure of an individual’s capabilities, and ‚education inflation‘, which requires job candidates to obtain higher degrees for positions that formerly had lower requirements, have undermined the value of work experience and diplomas from all but the most prestigious universities.“
